What You Leave Behind

They’re pulling bodies from rubble sirens bounce off a dead sky.
They won’t go a ceasefire as long as they’ve still got flags to fly
A random raid instils the fear of God into some men’s minds
Yet direct hits seems to have no effect not this or any other time
They’re employing drones in an otherwise easy take on warfare
They’re killing anything that moves and are less inclined to care
A culling of a race or obliteration of a town is now rigour de jour
Yet don’t say you’re anti-them as they’ll be right back for more
Go on and say a prayer and light a candle in the dark
Go and curse the foe who just missed another mark
Shine a light from wherever now is home.
Shine a light to show you’re no longer alone.
But a line that fades is one that can’t be held.
As a light that sparks sees a battalion felled
On and on and over and over, it goes on.
They’re doctoring patients who won’t last to see another day.
As incoming rockets have a special way of making people stay
An airlift out of this hell is more like a pardon from death row
But what you leave behind is everything you used to know
But what you leave behind is everything you used to know
But what you leave behind is everything you used to know

Oh Yeah

I believe
So no one noticed anything about you
Oh yeah
They’d like to see you
Maybe even be with you
Take a change of heart
Make for a new start
Climbin’ up the wall
Just to take a fall
Not sure it’s the new you
But who knew the real you
I believe
So no one noticed anything about you
Oh yeah
So no one noticed anything about you
Oh yeah
So take a new approach
Look to be perfect host
Diggin’ your own grave
Not a lot to save
Not sure it’s the new you
But who knew the real you
I believe
So no one noticed anything about you
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
They’d like to know you
Maybe even try and copy you
Take an honest oath
Try your best to cope
Try out for the team
Isn’t what it seems
Not sure it’s the new you
But who knew the real you
I believe
So no one noticed anything about you
Oh yeah
